24 shirts. The whole job.
This example checks the calculator step by step. Replace every rate with your own figures before quoting an actual job.
Count production attempts.
The example sells 24 shirts with a 5% expected reject rate. Expected yield is 95%, so production is rounded up from 24 ÷ 0.95 to 26 attempts. Each attempt uses a $3.50 blank, a $2.25 transfer, and three minutes of pressing time at $20/hour. That is $1 of labor per attempt.
Add setup once.
26 × ($3.50 + $2.25 + $1.00) is $175.50. Add a $15 one-time setup cost for total entered costs of $190.50. This example has zero packaging, shipping, and overhead to keep the arithmetic visible. A real quote should include those costs where applicable.
Cover the payment fee and the target margin.
The target margin is 40%; sales tax is 8%; the modeled processor charges 2.9% of the tax-inclusive customer total plus $0.30. The denominator is 1 − 0.40 − 0.029 × 1.08 = 0.56868. Divide $190.80 by that denominator, then round the per-shirt price upward to a cent.
Unit price: $13.98
Pretax quote: $335.52
Sales tax collected: $26.84
Customer total: $362.36
Estimated payment fee: $10.81
Estimated job profit: $134.21 (40.00%)
Check the result after production.
Sales tax collected is not counted as profit. Estimated profit is pretax revenue minus entered costs and modeled payment fees. If the job takes longer, produces extra rejects, or receives a discount, use the actual-profit tab in the full toolkit to see the difference.
